Ultimate Dog Sledding Experience

Living in New England means short days, long winter nights and a good amount of time spend indoors. We, not unlike most people enjoy lazy days, cozy on the couch under a blanket watching some Netflix. With that said, we also enjoy some good winter fun whether it’s in our backyard or it means taking a weekend roadtrip.

This weekend we ventured up to Oxford Maine to do the Ultimate Dog Sledding Experience. I have always been fascinated by the Iditarod Race and never knew it would be possible to experience even a tiny bit of dogsledding but with a quick google search, hope became a reality.

We pulled in the address and immediately new we were in the right place. There they were, our very excited, very cute, and loud hosts….THE DOGS!

We were greeted by Alex, the owner, and then directed to the “warming hut” where we could check in and grab a hot beverage while we waited for our sled to be ready. After we checked in we went back out to have some time to meet and greet with the dogs. They were all super friendly and it was obvious that they knew they were getting ready to go and could not have been more eager. We both enjoyed some time with dogs but as you can see in the picture, I think Jess found a dog that enjoyed her bum scratches even more!!

After our meet and greet we met our guide Brandon and we were given directions on how to safely get into the sled. Once in the sled you get a nice warm blanket and are zipped up for an extra layer of protection from the wind. Zipped up, settled in and we were off!!!

Brandon was a great guide! He was super friendly with lots of knowledge about the dogs. We felt safe and learned quite a bit about during our 1 hour ride. Two Girls Fun Fact: Dogs will eat snow to cool themselves down when hot. SO SMART!

Take a look at our view on the ride.

This was a great experience and easy to book online. You can book a 1 hour or a 2 hour tour. Our advice: Dress warm and in layers!! Oh, and bring some treats for the dogs, they love it!!

These dogs are well cared for and it’s clear that they love what they do!! If you’re looking for some winter fun, go to http://ultimatedogsleddingexperience.com and book a dogsled tour. Oh, and don’t forget to tell them that Two Girls Spooning Sent Ya!
