Providence GPub

While GPub is the topic of this post, I want to give a plug to The Great Escape Room in Providence. https://thegreatescaperoom.com/providence?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=organic

We love a good escape room and enjoy taking on the challenge with our friends and frequent guest “Spooners” Laurie and Jerry. On this night we did Poker Night at the Presidents Bunker and it was great! We have previously and successfully completed The Escape Artist: The Final Seance and we have already purchased our tickets for our next challenge which will be one of the scavenger hunt rooms. It’s a fun, reasonably priced ($35 per person) night out especially in the colder months when you’re looking for something to do.

Jerry and Laurie are big foodies like we are so whenever we do a double date we make it a point to try out a new place. Jessica did a little research and found out that Gpub is within walking distance to the escape room so it was an easy choice. Providence has a plethora of fantastic restaurants and Gpub is definitely on that list!

In the heart of downtown Providence, GPub has an industrial feel with exposed heat ducts, cement beams, dark tones, and simple light fixtures. As you walk down the stairs into the restaurant your eye immediately catches the extensive bar area with wide screen TV’s from end to end…..what a great atmosphere for watching a game!!!!

Fun foodie fact….. the term Gastro-Pub was first introduced in the 1990’s as a way to describe a pub style restaurant that serves high quality gourmet food, and GPub checks off that box!

Speaking of games….why not dabble in a game of pool, air hockey, or a classic arcade game while you wait for your food? Are the kids joining you for dinner? Have them play some games while you sip on a beverage, and enjoy some adult conversation. Big screen TV’s, games and great food?? BRILLIANT! 🙂

We were promptly seated, as we had made a reservation a few days ahead.

Escape rooms always seem to bring out the hungry side in all of us…wait, who am I kidding…I’m always hungry! LOL!

The menu offers something for everyone and honestly it was hard to choose as every plate that went by our table looked and smelled fantastic!! We chose to start with the Korean Sticky Ribs ($16) and the Short Rib Poutine ($14) for our appetizers and we were not disappointed! Seriously…French fries with braised short rib, cheese curds and stout gravy?? YES PLEASE!

The gochujang barbeque, sticky Kimchie delights, covered with toasted sesame seeds were savory and full of sticky goodness. Finger. Licking. Good! The Poutine could have used a bit more stout gravy but other than that they were fantastic!

Inspired by the Short Rib Poutine, I ordered the Braised Beef Short Ribs ($26). The fork tender ribs are served with butter whipped potatoes, brussels sprouts, crispy onions and red wine carrot jus. Brussels sprouts don’t like me, and the feeling is mutual so our waitress ( Mary B.) offered to make a substitution and I opted for green beans. The red wine jus did not overpower the dish and made a nice little pool at the bottom of the plate to soak up the buttery potatoes. I was completed satisfied with my choice. 🙂

Jessica ordered the Wild Mushroom Bucatini ($21) which is served with caramelized mushrooms, roasted garlic, thyme, mascarpone cream sauce, parmesan and spinach. Being that Jessica isn’t a mushroom fan she asked to leave out the mushrooms and Mary was happy to honor that request. Jessica absolutely loved the creaminess of the dish and said it had just the right amount of cheese to not be overwhelming. I shouldn’t say this but I may have seen her lick the plate when she thought nobody was looking. 🙂 Truth be told she will is a lover of anything with gravy or sauce so this was right up her alley.

Knowing that we were going to hit Federal Hill for dessert, Jerry and Laurie played it safe and split a Smokehouse Burger ($18) with a side of Mac and Cheese ($7).

The Smokehouse Burger is a signature rib eye blend, and is topped with applewood smoked bacon, Rhed’s Memphis BBQ sauce, aged cheddar cheese, lettuce, onion strings, and tomato on a brioche roll. Jerry and Laurie both enjoyed the juicy, flavorful burger, and the crispy fries on the side. The Mac and Cheese was a bit dry but certainly more than good enough to eat.

Gpub is a winner from start to finish! The upscale pub food can hold it’s own amongst the Providence restaurant food scene, and the atmosphere is certainly inviting. GPub also offers valet parking, and anyone that dines in a city understands the challenge of finding parking so this is a bonus for sure!

If you find yourself in or near downtown Providence and are looking for a great dining experience, set your GPS to 61 Orange Street and head to GPub, you won’t be disappointed! Oh……and don’t forget to tell them that Two Girls Spooning sent you!!

Reservations recommended and check out their website here for hours of operation. https://gpubrestaurants.com/providence/

**As always we would like to thank our friends and guest “Spooners” Laurie and Jerry for joining us on another culinary adventure.

Happy Spooning!

Sara and Jess 🙂
