The Charred Oak Tavern

Located at 57 Center Street in Middleborough Ma, The Charred Oak Tavern is a hidden gem nestled in the quiet center of town. It was a busy Saturday night at the tavern and it is clear that the word is out that this is a winner, as we were told the wait would be an hour and half. We were willing to wait and thankfully we only waited about 35 minutes. The tavern is warm and inviting with a rustic/barn type theme throughout. A large bar is the focal point in the main room adding to the fun and relaxing vibe throughout the tavern. We were seating in the back of the tavern and immediately greeted by our very personable waitress. Being that we aren’t drinkers we didn’t need the alcohol menu but I can tell you that they have an extensive list of Whiskey’s from which to choose, which is a running theme throughout the decor and menu. The menu has a good variety… something for everyone, but you aren’t overwhelmed by the choices. We started with the Bourbon Candied Bacon ($10)and it did NOT disappoint! The bacon was cooked to perfection and served with a Bourbon honey maple dipping sauce on the side….an absolutely fantastic compliment to the bacon! Before our bacon arrived, the waitress asked if we wanted some maple honey rolls…. ummmm seriously? Do you even have to ask??? The rolls were served warm topped with a maple honey butter that was finger licking good! I could have eaten a dozen!!!! Between the rolls and bacon, I was already hooked! Jessica ordered the Chicken Scampi ($19)and asked for it to be light on the lemon. They nailed it! The sauce was full of flavor with a great balance of garlic, butter, lemon and spices. The pasta was Al Dente’ and there was more than enough chicken to compliment the pasta. I can tell you that her plate didn’t need to go through the dishwasher when she was done! I will be ordering that when we go back!I opted for the Bourbon Steak Tips ($18.50)with red bliss mashed potatoes and garlic green beans. There are several sides that you can substitute for a small charge. My tips were cooked to a perfect medium well, were tender, and full of sweet bourbon flavor! The mashed potatoes were definitely not from a box and the green beans were flavored well and cooked perfectly. Considering how busy they were I was pleasantly surprised that we didn’t wait long for our food and the quality was fantastic. There are many restaurants that seem to lose quality on an extremely busy night, but the Charred Oak Tavern was firing on all cylinders! We were both full but once we saw the Chocolate Molten Lava Cake pass by, we couldn’t resist. The cake was soft, warm and topped off with a dollop of creamy vanilla ice cream and a generous amount of whipped cream. The warm chocolaty goodness flowed smoothly from the center and I have to say it was one of the best I have had in recent memory. I didn’t take a picture because as soon as it hit the table we were fully involved in taking it down! The Charred Oak Tavern is a must visit if you like excellent food, good size portions and a fun laid back vibe. Prices range from $8-$26 and are absolutely reasonable for the quality of food that is being served. The Charred Oak Tavern gets 10 out of 10 spoons from these girls so go check it out and tell them Two Girls Spooning sent you!Happy Spooning !
