Gibbet Hill Grill

Located on a picturesque backdrop of wide open landscape, the converted barn of the Gibbet Hill Grill serves up a fantastic farm to fork dining experience. I was hoping to take some interior pictures but it was a packed house and I didn’t want to be intrusive to the other patrons. I would describe the atmosphere as rustic elegance, with a mixture of booths and tables overlooking vast fields filled with grazing cattle. I had made a reservation so we were seated immediately at a booth directly across from the open view kitchen. I must admit that I love open view kitchens!!! Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable with regard to the menu. He explained that all of the vegetables on the “daily board” were picked fresh that morning to be utilized in dishes throughout the day. The menu offerings will differ slightly from season to season based on what is picked fresh from the farm. We opted to skip an appetizer but we were offered fresh corn bread with butter as our “starter”… how could we say no! The cornbread was fantastic! It was sweet, moist and served with a dish of butter that had undertones of honey and almond that complimented the sweetness of the cornbread. The menu has a good selection of offerings … everything from salad to steak and everything in between. I ordered the 10oz filet mignon. It came with two sides… I chose mashed potatoes and shoestring steak frites drizzled with truffle oil. The steak was almost fork tender and full of flavor. It truly melted in my mouth!!!! I’ve had some amazing cuts but this was by far the best cooked and seasoned filet I have ever eaten! The mashed potatoes were creamy, buttery and had just the right amount of garlic flavor. The steak frites were crispy and had a hint of salt, all complimented with the flavor of truffle oil. Needless to say, there were no frites, potatoes or steak left when I was done !!!!!!! Jess ordered crispy potato crusted haddock served with a sweet corn and bacon chowder. The dish smelled amazing !!!! Jess said the chowder was creamy and the bacon didn’t overwhelm the dish but complimented the sweetness of the chowder. I don’t like fish so I trust Jess when she said the fish was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Her plate didn’t stand a chance ! Poof and it was gone ! We were both full and opted to skip dessert but I would love to return to try something in the future! With prices ranging from 12$ to 50$ the menu can seem a bit pricey but I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Everything that went by us looked and smelled amazing!!!! If you’re searching for a great restaurant in the Groton area, make a reservation to the Gibbet Hill Grill….and tell them Two Girls Spooning sent you !!!!!
