River Falls

Located at 74 South Main Street in Woonsocket RI, River Falls Restaurant and Lounge offers a pleasant outdoor dining experience. The stone building, appearing to have been an old mill in earlier times, has a large indoor area as well as a good size outdoor patio with many tables overlooking the falls. The tables on the patio are at least 6 feet apart if not more. As we were walking in we immediately noticed one of the staff disinfecting the table and chairs after diners had left. We had a very pleasant hostess bring us to our table and I immediately noticed that all staff ( including bartenders) were wearing masks. We were seated at a table overlooking the river but I must say that there really isn’t a bad view from any table in that outside area. The table had 2 paper menus and plastic utensils wrapped in a napkin. We don’t normally drink but Jess opted for a Sangria ( Covid has done this to her) 8$ and I had my usual Sprite. I know I’m a wild and crazy chick. Lol! Being that this was our first time eating out since March we definitely had to go with Calamari ($8.99) as our appetizer. The Calamari was fried to perfection, lightly battered and tender. Served with hot pepper rings, garlic, and a side of their “secret” marinara sauce, it was certainly a palette pleaser. For our entrees Jess chose Chicken Penne Alla Vodka $17.99( she opted for spaghetti instead). Loaded with chicken, Jess said it was creamy, full of well balanced flavor, and the Vodka didn’t overpower the dish. Due to the fact that I’m lactose intolerant, I have to take her word for it. A large portion was no match for Jess, it was just that good!!! I chose Chicken Piccata ($15.99) which happens to be one of my favorites. I have to say it was one of my favorite Piccata dishes to date!!! As soon as the waiter put the dish in front of me, the aroma had me ready to dig in. Again, the portion was a good size but I was certainly up for the challenge. This dish was loaded with chicken and had a great balance of lemon, garlic and white wine. I honestly thought about licking the plate when I was done but Jess wasn’t having it! LOL! Hey, we hadn’t been to a restaurant in months !!!! Jess was full and didn’t have dessert but I made room. We are in the middle of a pandemic…. EAT DESSERT !!!! I had to go with one of my favorites…..Strawberry shortcake ($6.99). I popped a few Lactaid pills and opted to have it with ice cream. Topped with an overflowing amount of whipped cream, the sweet strawberries covered the moist, old fashioned biscuit, and vanilla ice cream. It was large but I took it down and had no regrets!!!! Many of our friends know that during the winter I make a summer to do list of restaurants and adventures that we want to try. Unfortunately, like everyone else, Corona has put a damper on our summer but we are still going to cross a few outdoor restaurants off our list. River Falls was at the top of that list and it did not disappoint! Sitting by the falls was relaxing, we felt safe and the food was fantastic! If you’re like us and not ready to eat indoors, take a ride to River Falls in Woonsocket RI…you’ll be glad you did! Oh ya… don’t forget to tell them that Two Girls Spooning sent you!Happy Spooning !
