Intermission Tavern
If you’re near the Shubert or Wang Theater and looking for a cool place to grab a bite, check out the Intermission Tavern on 228 Tremont Street.
It has all the charm of a city hot spot; small, friendly people, theater memorabilia, and good pub style food. With seats for approximately 60 people it reminds me of all those happening NYC eateries that seem to be on every corner.
When you walk in you immediately notice theater memorabilia on the walls and several props from old shows. The bar seats about 15 and there are several booths and tables along with 8 counter seats near the door. We opted for the counter seats in front of the window ( people watching at its best).
We were greeted quickly by our waiter ( clearly a college student) and ordered drinks. Well, our version of drinks… water and a Sprite.
The menu carries typical pub fare; appetizers ( 7 or 8 from which to choose) burgers, sandwiches and several entree selections. Menu price range… $7-19$ so not bad for Boston.
I ordered a turkey club on sourdough bread with curly fries. It was stacked with turkey, crisp bacon and fresh tomatoes ( no lettuce for the girl with Crohn’s) and just the right amount of mayo. The curly fires were crisp and full of flavor! Truth be told, Jess finished off my fries.
Jess opted for the hangar marinated steak tips with mashed potatoes and green beans. The tips were cooked as ordered and had a nice flavor and Jess loved the creaminess of the mashed potatoes. Her only complaint was the lack of flavor on the green beans.
The dessert was just about non existent with Tiramisu as the only option.
Overall, with prices in the moderate range it’s a nice, quaint place to grab a quick bite before or after a show. We give it 7 out of 10. If you drop by tell them Two Girls Spooning sent ya 🙂
