Agoro’s Pizza Bar and Grill

With summer now in full swing, I’m finally getting caught up on the blog in an effort to be ready to post about our upcoming summer adventures. A few months ago as we looked at our ever growing list of places to try, we decided that we were both in the mood for pizza, and it was time to try a new place. Without hesitation I knew this would be a perfect time to text our pizza/foodie loving friends Bryan and Lauren.

Within minutes we had a recommendation for Agoro’s. We thought it would be fun to see if they wanted to be guest Spooner’s as they are regulars at this hot spot! When you drive in and there’s not a parking spot to be found, you know you hit the jackpot!! Who knew that in the small town of Somerset lies a family owned ( since 1984) restaurant serving up some killer Greek style pan pizza and so much more!!

As soon as we walked in I knew this was a lively spot. The bar area was hopping amidst the myriad of TV’s on various channels and the dining room was filled with the sounds of people enjoying their night. Bryan and Lauren were waiting for us at a high top and quickly introduced us to our waitress/bartender, and their friend Andrea. Just by her greeting I knew we would be in good hands! I wanted to take a few pictures of the bar and restaurant, but it was so busy I didn’t want people to think I was creeping on them…lol! I grabbed this picture from the Agoro’s website to give you an idea of the interior.

For appetizers we chose the Potato Skins ( $12.99) and the Mozambique Fries ( $13.99). The potato skins were heaping with crispy bacon, and the melted cheese was ……………………….. Now, on to the Fries 🙂 If you’ve never experienced Mozambique sauce, get yourself to the nearest Portuguese restaurant STAT! No time for that? Ok, allow me to explain…..Mozambique sauce is orange in color and a Portuguese staple that combines Goya powder (Portuguese spices), butter, garlic, beer, Pimenta Moida ( crushed red pepper) and sometimes white wine. If your name is Jessica, you sometimes find yourself drinking the sauce after you’ve finished the dish. LOL!

The crispy fries sat atop a spicy, well-balanced, Mozambique sauce topped with cheese and ground fresh baked Chourico ( Portuguese style sausage). As we dug to the bottom, the savory sauce enveloped the fries and I could tell by Jessica’s face that she was in her happy place. I could also feel that I was getting full and the main course hadn’t come yet, so I forced myself to stop. Moreover, I saw the dessert tray go by earlier and I had my eye on a few things. LOL!

With great company and solid apps, the night was heading in a great direction and I was excited to see if our next selections would solidify a spot for Agoro’s on the blog. I do want to add that while the menu may seem like mostly pub style food, they most certainly have entrees that can compete with any restaurant!

Lauren chose the Parmegiana Sub ($14.99). Brian went with the Buffalo Chicken wrap ($14.99). Jessica had the Steak Tips ($24.99) and I finally decided on a half sliced meatball half Chourico pizza ( small $14.99 and Jessica chose the Margarita Pizza ($14.99)

Everyone’s food looked and smelled fantastic. Lauren’s sub was HUGE and heaping with chicken, sauce and melted cheese. Brian’s wrap looked fresh and was filled with chunks of spicy chicken, lettuce and crispy bacon. Both sandwiches came with a heap of fries!! They are regulars so they knew the food was good but Jessica and I were impressed with the quality and quantity!

Now…..on to the PIZZA! Let’s start with the crust….oh that crust!!! Soooo soft and soooooo fresh. With a generous amount of toppings and fresh Mozarella, this is one of my favorite pizza’s to date. If we lived a little closer, they would definitely be seeing our faces often for take out pizza. I think about it often…LOL!

At this point we were all full but I made the mistake of looking at the desserts going by and, well……it had to happen. Agoro’s has a good selection of desserts and a few tempted by already happy taste buds. 🙂

Jessica stuck with the always favorite chocolate cake, The Turner’s shared a Flan ( sharing? Who does that?), and I had to have the Nutella Oreo Mousse. Ironically, I don’t like Nutella, but make it into a Mousse and I’m all in. I can’t speak as to how the Flan taste because I am not a flan fan, but Bryan and Lauren enjoyed it. Jessica said her cake was moist and a bit dense but that seems to standard for chocolate cake these days….I will say that she didn’t hate because she ate it. LOL! My mousse was fantastic! Quite simply, the perfect combination of silky mousse, and Oreo crumbles topped with whipped cream…..Was I full yes? Did I lick it clean? Yes? Why? I’m not a quitter!!!! 🙂

Seriously speaking……Agoro’s is nothing to joke about. It’s a hidden gem in Somerset and we think you’ll love it! Support local and go grab a pizza or one of their other great meals. Set your GPS to 2756 County Street in Somerset and when you get there, don’t forget to tell them that Two Girls Spooning sent ya !
