Chapel Grille
Built in 1891 and once home to the Sockanosett School for Boys, The Chapel Grille is now home to a cozy atmosphere with great food and generous portions. Upon entering, you instantly feel the architectural influences from the original Chapel. The dark woodwork, low ambience lighting and roaring fireplace sets the mood for a relaxing meal. The Bar area looked cozy and had a great vibe with several TV’s and a view into the kitchen , which is always fun to watch in my opinion. The rest of the restaurant is a mix of booths and tables with chairs all set around an impressive gray stone fireplace with blown glass art pieces that is truly the focal point in the room. We were immediately greeted by our waitress and asked if we would like drink or a glass of wine. Although neither one of us drink, the wine and drink list was extensive and the prices seemed comparable from what I’ve seen at other restaurants. The menu itself had a good selection of choices from salads and steaks to pasta and seafood with prices ranging from 17$ to 40$. We opted for Calamari for our appetizer shocker right?……full disclosure… between being lactose intolerant and having Crohn’s disease I am somewhat limited on what I can eat, especially with most appetizer selections. The Calamari was lightly breaded, fried and very fresh served with a mix of sweet peppers, and a tangy butter/ garlic sauce. You can opt for a single serving (10$) or a table serving for 15$. Our waitress suggested the single serving and it was just enough for the two of us. While we waited for our Calamari, the HOT, JUST OUT OF THE OVEN BREAD came to the table and let’s just say…. it didn’t have a chance! Crusty on the outside and soft on the inside , the 4 pieces disappeared in the blink of an eye!!! Truth be told…….I would go back just for the Calamari and bread!!!!! We were batting 2 for 2 and then the dinners arrived. Jess ordered Penne Ala Vodka and added grilled chicken (21$). She asked for fettuccine instead of penne and they were happy to make that substitution. Two large, perfectly cooked flavorful pieces of grilled chicken, sat atop a heaping plate of Al Dente pasta. Jess said the sauce was tangy, creamy, full of rich flavors , and was impressed with the portion of the plate. I ordered Chicken Piccata (23$) and was in awe ( and happy …lol) with the portion size. The sauce was full of garlic and lemon flavor and the white wine undertones were obvious in every bite. An absolutely perfect Al Dente pasta made a great pillow for the large pieces of grilled chicken to top the dish off. We also ordered a side of whipped potatoes as a side ( ya like the pasta wasn’t enough carbs… LOL) and they were creamy, smooth and to die for …. they were gone quickly and we may have fought for the last fork full. Don’t judge, carbs are life ! At this point we were beyond full and opted to not have dessert but to our surprise the waitress came by with a dessert of fresh biscotti and house made whipped cream adorned with some fresh blueberries. Let me just say OMG to the whipped cream!!!! I could eat a tub of that and not feel one bit guilty about it! With a quick 40 minute ride from NB we will absolutely be back for a second trip. The filet mignon looked amazing, and Jess was spying some other good looking dishes as they were going by our booth. On a side note, the area around the restaurant ( Chapel Village ) is home to a shopping area similar to Wareham Crossing so you can eat and then walk off the carbs by doing a little shopping. That’s a win win situation in my book! Give Chapel Grille a try… I don’t think you’ll be disappointed and tell them Two Girls Spooning sent you! Happy Spooning !!!
